Nita Wiggins wins 2008 Top Hat & Tails Lucy Trophy
in the Dance Competition!!

Part One
Part Two

Top Hat & Tails 2008 was an amazing success! Almost 700 guests were treated to
delicious food, wine and drinks and browsed the incredible silent auction items. Fund Our Mission and the Live Auction raised a lot of money after the viewing of the Paws in the City short film during dinner. (please see the film on the home page of www.pawsinthecity.org) Honorees: Pete & Mac Pet Resort in Las Colinas, Barking Hound Village, Needless Necessities, Gregg Asher and Preston Pearson were presented awards for their dedication to Paws In The City.

Host Preston Pearson and Master of Ceremonies Scott Murray delighted the crowd as they presented the Top Hat & Tails dance competition. The female contestants wore costumes that were actually worn on the Dancing With the Star's TV Show and they looked fantastic.

Joe Avezzano and his Arthur Murray partner, Sarah Dantes performed the Cha Cha. Brian Cuban and his Arthur Murray partner, Nikki Holland performed the Lindy Hop. Kristine Kahanek and her Arthur Murray partner, Ian Kelley performed a sexy Tango. Ron Kirk and his Arthur Murray partner, Gilda Taylor performed the Rumba. Meagan Norris and her Arthur Murray partner, Paul Rodriguez performed the Cha Cha. JD Ryan and his Arthur Murray partner, Adriann Alexander performed the West Coast Swing. Carolyn Shamis and her Arthur Murray Partner, Justin Brown performed the Waltz. Nita Wiggins and her Arthur Murray partner, Duce Roddick performed the Hustle

The judges: Claudia Marshall, Kellie Rasberry and Tony Dorsett had some witty and interesting critiques of the dancers and gave each couple a score from 1-10. The guests then had a chance to vote for their favorite dancer. The votes and scores were tabulated and although Carolyn Shamis got a perfect score of 30 from the judges, Nita Wiggins, who came in second for the judges, won the Lucy Award.

Paws in the City raised lots of money to save more dogs and cats from the streets as strays and from being euthanized at the Dallas city shelter. We want to thank everyone for attending and being so generous!

Please be on the lookout for information about next year's event. This was such a successful event, we're doing it again! Hope you will join us next year! If you are interested in sponsoring or know of a celebrity who might want to participate, please

Some dogs and cats were adopted at the event. Shown here is the Don Stanhouse family who adopted Annie Grace and Ming Ming with our emcee Scott Murray.

What people are saying about Top Hat and Tails 2008
I had a wonderful time at the Top Hat & Tails event. I really didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. What a class affair!
Tony Dorsett, Former Dallas Cowboy and Judge of Top Hat & Tails

There are many worthy charities and it is hard to be unique in your efforts to raise money. Top Hat & Tails was an extremely well organized event that was fun and totally different. Everyone that participated from attendees to entertainers had a wonderful time. I would recommend that people get involved in whatever capacity they can. You will be glad you did.
Joe Avezzano, Former Special Teams Coach of Dallas Cowboys and Dancer at TH&T

I had a great time, although, I really was nervous as a cat. Please extend my gratitude to all responsible for producing such a fun evening.
Ron Kirk, Former Mayor of Dallas and Dancer at Top Hat & Tails

I had a fabulous time. Thank you for everything. I’ve never had so much fun at a fundraising event in the almost 20 years I’ve been in TV. It was a fantastic experience.
Kristine Kahanek, Meteorologist CBS 11 and Dancer at Top Hat & Tails

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to participate in Top Hat and Tails. It was a wonderful experience for a wonderful cause. Everyone associated with the event was a pleasure to work with. Everyone that I know who attended had an incredible time.
Brian Cuban, Director of Mark Cuban Foundation and Dancer at Top Hat & Tails

It was my privilege to sponsor the event knowing that the money raised saved a large number of our four-legged friends from pain and suffering and made their futures secure in new homes. Someone once told me "dog" is "God" spelled backwards, and whether this is true or not, I know this is "my Father's work". Thank you for the privilege of being a better human being who is making a difference.
Arthur Benjamin, Underwriting Sponsor of Top Hat & Tails

Congratulations on an absolutely fabulous event! Everything was just lovely. The room set up was beautiful—the dinner outstanding—and the entertainment was delightful. The couples we hosted were most impressed! Thanks to you for setting the bar so high for what will be a much-anticipated fundraiser each year.
Julie Bown, Individual Sponsor of Top Hat & Tails

Thanks for a great evening. You guys worked hard and your efforts showed. It was first class all the way. I go to a lot of fundraisers and do so because I love the animals, but this one turned out to be fun and I would have gone just for the type of evening you guys put on. Hope this can be an annual event; it certainly was a good one!
